Many takes for actors during filming are a common thing; however, when food appears in the frame with them, the situation can get out of hand. Before getting the role of “Star-Lord” in Guardians of the Galaxy, Chris Pratt played Andy Dwyer for five years in the comedy series Parks and Recreation. Moreover, his character, an unemployed musician named Andy, was supposed to leave the project after the first season, but the audience liked him so much that it was decided to leave the character in.
During the filming of the show, his mission was to make his colleagues laugh and gain weight. It seems that this happened with Chris Pratt in one of the episodes. The actor has many funny stories associated with this project. On the air of the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, the actor shared a funny story with the filming of Parks and Rec.
Chris recalled how in the series the characters sometimes went to a restaurant decorated in the style of Jurassic Park, and once they brought them “dinosaur-sized portions”. In addition, since the actor did not have any lines in that scene, he decided to destroy a full portion of ribs per take.
“They gave us dinosaur-sized portions. And so I didn’t have anything to say in the scene. So, inevitably, I wanted to try to get some screen time and I decided I would eat one rack of ribs per taking. If the camera happened to catch me, I would absolutely be inhaling ribs. I went through 12 takes; I went through 12 racks of ribs, which is the equivalent of six pigs. “
However, that was not the end. When it was time for lunch, it turned out that the film crew was expecting ribs again. A true “glutton” for punishment, Pratt did not stop, and he took on four more servings. Pratt didn’t comment on the after effects of the 16 humongous portions of pork, but we can only imagine how his digestion system handled the fare.
In his own words, this almost plunged him into the “state of a food coma.” Such games with his appetite led to Pratt gaining about 30-40 pounds during the filming of the popular comedy series.
“I remember in the first couple of seasons, just unintentionally, I’d gotten a little fat and I was watching the episodes. I was like, ‘Oh God Chris, you really let yourself go. And then I was like, ‘But this is some of the funniest stuff you’ve ever done.”
Later, he had to sweat it out to get himself in good physical shape. Fortunately, the efforts were not spent in vain and along with the improved muscles and physique, Pratt received invitations to many large-scale projects. Ironically, one of them was the dinosaur franchise Jurassic World, which will soon release another sequel in theaters.
