Recently, Ewan McGregor gave Star Wars fans some stuff to think about when he was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Fallon, a big fan of both Star Wars and McGregor had some fun with his guest when he suggested the new “Baby Kenobi” doll complete with beard and lightsabre.

Of course, the idea was just in jest, but what a fun idea (Disney execs are already pondering this I’m sure). With the ultra-popular Baby Yoda character from Disney’s The Mandalorian series, nearly everything relating to Star Wars these days seems to take us down another road to the Baby Yoda discussion.

However, McGregor was on The Tonight Show to discuss and promote his own upcoming Star Wars project where he will return to his Obi-Wan Kenobi character after around 15 years. McGregor told Fallon that he has been watching The Mandalorian in order to prepare for his upcoming role and keep updated on all the happenings in the Star Wars saga.

Regarding the project on Disney+, McGregor said:

“We’re going to start shooting it next year. … I’ve been watching The Mandalorian. I liked it. I really liked it. And I’m just trying to keep abreast of all the new Star Wars films that come out. And I’m excited about it. It’s been a long time. I can’t remember when was the last one I did. 2003 I think was the last one I did.”

Actually, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith was released in 2005 but nobody’s judging McGregor on the small mistake. In fact, most of us are pretty jealous that binge watching The Mandalorian isn’t part of OUR job description.

McGregor went on to give some exciting news about the project including that filming will begin in 2021 with Disney+, which provided some refreshingly positive news about the series. Rumors had abounded about delays in production and even possible cancellation.

It seems now that all is good and we can look forward to seeing Obi-Wan aka Ben somewhere in the near future on screen and perhaps on television will be even better than a feature film. The show is reportedly set between the periods of Episodes III and IV, which gives a timeframe of nearly 2 decades to play with as Luke is growing up on Tatooine.

In the meantime, we have the 2nd season of The Mandalorian to look forward to this fall and with any luck some other Star Wars related announcements along the way.
