Bay Films is a production studio that has been around for a long time. Michael Bay himself is an acclaimed director who knows how to make “big” movies. He rarely cares about creating something stylish and pretentious. His main shtick is making bombastic action movies with lots of hot women and men fighting against all odds in great makeup while running away from colorful explosions and, preferably, monsters or robots making angry sci-fi noises.

While it may not sound like something artsy, he is definitely very good at it. Thousands of critics tried to criticize his work and gave up because it is impossible to criticize something that was never intended to be “good” in the same way as highly artistic motion pictures usually are. Bay does not try to make “good” movies but instead tries to make entertaining films that will be remembered for silly jokes and even sillier action scenes.

Having such a master around is actually quite good for any company that focuses on making entertainment products. Sony Pictures is certainly interested in having someone like Bay making movies and TV shows for them. The recent first-look deal between Bay Films and Sony Pictures proves it. Now, the union is complete and we are about to see some of the finest Michael Bay-produced entertainment products from the big studio. Note that Sony Pictures is the first big company Bay worked for at the beginning of his career.

While many may not remember but his breakout movie was not Transformers or Armageddon. He made a name for himself by releasing “Bad Boys” nearly three decades ago. After that, his career had an upward trajectory. He made epic movies like Pearl Harbor and The Purge as well as many purely entertaining CGI-fests like transformers.

Lately, he has been working with Netflix and Amazon to create content for streaming services. His endeavors in this field were actually very successful. He managed to make a nice drama for the TNT channel called The Last Ship. Then, he produced a well-received show about Jack Ryan based on the novels by Tom Clancy. Netflix was more than happy to stream his 6 Underground.

Wherever you look, Bay is successful like never before. At this very moment, Bay is probably sitting in one of his production facilities and thinking about how to finish his latest drama for Sony called Black Five. The production was slowed down if not halted altogether amidst the pandemic. However, it did not prevent him from signing a big deal with Sony Pictures that would see him making several more films and TV shows for the company.

It is a great business move for Bay. The times are uncertain. While the deal was conceived way before the current pandemic, it is a good idea to sign a contract now. We don’t know the long-term consequences of the current epidemic and how it will affect moviemakers. Surely, some of them will bounce back from the crisis but many will be left jobless and start working on some small time projects without any serious financial backing until things get back to normal. Bay, on the other hand, already secured his immediate future.

As soon as the production will be restarted on movie sets all across the globe, Bay will be one of the first to start making content. He will have several projects in production at the same time making sure that he and his Bay Films team are always busy and have jobs. Talk whatever you want about his artistic prowess, his business grip has been very firm ever since he started working in Hollywood. He knows how to make money. Right now, it is the only thing that matters for him, his partners, and employees! Let’s wish him luck!
