It is hard to describe what’s been happening to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The series started off with a big band and became a cult classic for some people. Both critics and audiences praised the performances from the whole cast especially focusing on outstanding jobs from Jeoffrey Rush and Johnny Depp.
While other actors did not receive the same amount of love, it was impossible to find someone who didn’t try. The ensemble delivered a very satisfying performance that stayed in our hearts for a decade. The sad thing is that the latest entries in the franchise were quite “questionable”, to say the least. Dead Men Tell no Tales was particularly badly received while still making money in the box office. So, the sequel was a sure thing.
The talks between studios, behind-the-camera talent, and actors still continue as writers are trying to come up with an original yet interesting script that would carry the legacy of the series well enough to appeal to both new audiences and fans. In order to make fans happy, the studios definitely have to bring back some of the cast. The recent debacle related to the divorce between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard eventually led to the rumors that Jack Sparrow could return to once again stand tall on the deck of the Black Pearl.
However, Depp is not the only star that fans dearly remember and would like to see in the Pirate outfit. The biggest rumor that has been revolving around the next Pirates movie is that Orlando Bloom might return to the franchise and reprise his role as a captain of the Flying Dutch. Will Turner, Elizabeth Swan, and Jack Sparrow were definitely the glue of the series as well as Hector Barbossa. Note that Orlando Bloom’s character appeared in the fifth film to a mixed reaction of the audience. He did not have much to do in the movie and many believed that his cameo was really forced.
As the talks behind the scenes are still happening, the studio has to consider another important factor: how the new duo of heroes will mesh with the old guard. Remember that Depp may also return. It would be really hard to blend together so many heroes and tell a satisfying story. It could be a big risk for the studio if plans to continue the franchise are something that it bets on. With two more movies in development, chances are Disney will focus really hard on making the new stars as bankable as possible.
Rumors about Orlando Bloom’s return are not very loud and have been spread by outlets like We Got This Covered.
