But of course, 2020 was nothing but ordinary and the Oscars of 2021 were not immune to their effects. So, what about the 93rd Academy Awards? Where are they? Is someone going to be there? And what movies do you need to watch out for to be able to win at Oscar pool? Let’s look closer.

As such, we don’t know who’s really hosting the Oscars in 2021. With the show about three months away and whether or not vaccines will be performed at an early stage before the regular oscar ceremony date.

But since the last two years, if they decided to go without a host this year as well, we can’t be sure. And for what is generally called the hardest work in Hollywood the program could be better for the movies to deliver the news than the hosts.

Since 2004, the Oscars will only be drifted away from a February ceremony by the Winter Olympics. However, the Academy agreed to postpone the ceremony from the initial date of 28 February 2021 on to 25 April 2021, following the pandemic and the various impacts on the film industry – the postponed launches and production.

The changing of the Oscar dates is in major measure to allow filmmakers an opportunity to complete their films after COVID-related setbacks and still apply for this year’s awards. To achieve this, the 2021 Oscar eligibility window had to be extended.

Normally, films will have to be released between January 1 and December 31 of their specified year, but for 2021 the Academy would consider films that were released around January 1, 2020, and February 28, 2021.

So those are the norms, now who are the participants? There have not been several daily precursors that will enable one to calculate the field at this time, but the word of mouth and a couple of award bodies have begun setting the foundations for the 93rd Academy Awards. Here’s an outline of who could be competing.

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom: Chadwick Boseman is attracting a lot of publicity for this August Wilson production, and rightly so as the last film from the late Black Panther actor, but don’t sleep on Viola Davis or the beautiful look of the film set in the 1920s and helmed by George C. Wolfe that might end up being among the top Oscar nominations.

Two-time Oscar nominee Frances McDormand is number three in this story of the woman who embraces a nomadic life after the United States’ Great Recession. Director Chloé Zhao has been the leader, who recently won top prizes with the Boston critics after winning Toronto and Venice laurels at the festival.

One Night in Miami: Regina King received an Oscar for her first acting nomination, will she do the same for her first directing gig? King’s attention has been directed to four of the iconic leaders of civil rights – Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali (still Cassius Clay during the movie), Sam Cooke and Jim Brown – and King shows praise for being as talented behind the camera as before.

Mank: David Fincher’s depiction of the writing of Citizen Kane falls right in line with a subject the Oscars tend to award – movies about Hollywood. Expect Fincher to be a player in nearly all categories, carefully constructed and wonderfully acted film.

Other films in the discussion: Promising Young Woman, Minari, Sound of Metal, The Midnight Moon, The Prom, Palm Springs, The Invisible Man, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Wonder Woman 1984

Stuff will eventually begin to crystalize as we work our way through this extraordinary Oscar season.
