Simpson’s Incorrectly Predicted the Super Bowl or Did They?

We all know about the epic foretellings of The Simpsons. Afterall, the long running animated comedy has predicted the election of Donald Trump as President of the U.S., the purchase of Fox by Disney, nobel prize winners, and even a Gold medal in Curling at the Olympics.

So, for fans of both the popular and clairvoyant series and NFL football were quick to point out, there was an episode in season 10 of The Simpsons titled “Sunday, Cruddy Sunday” (a clever play on the classic U2 song).

Miami has been the site of several big games including Super Bowl XXXIII, which was the site in the year the episode was released. Of course, the 49ers weren’t in that game, which featured the Atlanta Falcons and the Denver Broncos.

In the episode, Homer and the guys travel to Miami for the Super Bowl where the team that wins appears to resemble the San Francisco 49ers jerseys. At least to some people. Therefore, many fans from the Bay Area and 49ers fans in general were pointing it out before the NFL’s final game of the year.

Of course, we know the outcome of the game and the 49ers didn’t leave Miami as NFL Champions. Instead, the Patrick Mahomes led Chiefs took the Super Bowl trophy back to Kansas City for the first time in 50 years. So, it appears The Simpsons got one wrong. Or did they?

Keep in mind that the 49ers were wearing their white jerseys for the game and not red. Instead, it was the Chiefs that were wearing the red jerseys with yellow (gold) trim in the Super Bowl. Perhaps the show DID get it right.

Springfield, the setting for The Simpsons, is the only city name that exists in all 50 U.S. states, but for Missouri, Springfield is the 3rd largest city and only a couple hours from the home of the Chiefs, Kansas City, Missouri. Therefore, Springfield, Missouri is definitely part of “Chiefs Kingdom” and their rabid fans are known to “travel well” when their team is on the road.

That’s right! The Simpsons-verse is still intact and their predictions will keep us marching forward to our inevitable doom – when the show is finally cancelled.

Simpsons predicted 49ers winning the SB lol wonder if it comes true unless it’s KC wearing red

The team dressed like the San Francisco 49ers ended up winning in the episode, which could be good luck for the 49ers ahead of the game. Again, though, The Simpsons never referred to the 49ers by name, and it’s also worth mentioning the 49ers will be wearing the white and gold variant of its jerseys for Super Bowl LIV. With the jerseys not matching, this could be The Simpsons predicting another Super Bowl the 49ers have yet to appear in.

For any Kansas City Chiefs fans shaken up by this potential prediction, it’s worth noting The Simpsons had another moment in this episode that could’ve been the future but ended up being false. Al Gore can be seen measuring windows in the Oval Office while then-President Bill Clinton is on the phone with Homer following the game. The joke was meant to imply Gore was the next to take office as president, but of course he ended up losing to former President George W. Bush.

The point being, The Simpsons makes a lot of predictions, but we often only notice when it’s right. This is similar to the Lady Gaga halftime show prediction buzzed about a few years ago, which only vaguely resembled Gaga’s performance at the Super Bowl. It’s still cool, but perhaps not quite as startling a prediction as some of the things the show has guessed in the past. Of course, if some randos end up crashing the 49ers locker room after the game, that will bump up this prediction’s wow factor immensely.
