Uncharted is a video game franchise that has been rumored to receive a movie adaptation for a long time. The problem with it is that the game is already very cinematic and each installment has a great script that covers a single adventure. The movie has to explore other endeavors of Nathan Drake with high stakes which is quite hard to do without compromising the games. Retelling old stories will not sit well with the fans of games.
Nathan Drake definitely has the potential to carry a movie franchise as a character. Tom Holland is a high-caliber actor whose excellent portrayal of Spiderman allowed him to become a huge star. The combination seems to be immune to failure. However, we have to wait and see. Again. The movie as a concept has been in production hell for a long time. Now, we may finally see it in the theaters.
Nathan Drake definitely has the potential to carry a movie franchise as a character. Tom Holland is a high-caliber actor whose excellent portrayal of Spiderman allowed him to become a huge star.
Tom Holland was announced as the main star of the upcoming movie back in June of 2019. We did not see anything new about the film since its premiere date is still in December of 2020. In the contemporary world of showbiz, such long periods of silence are not good signs. Thankfully, the silence was broken recently by Mr. Holland who said that the newest draft was one of the best he has ever read.
The actor also confirmed that the movie will not be follow-ups to the stories told in the games and instead will strongly focus on the backstory of the character. He noted that video games featuring Nathan Drake, strangely enough, do not explore his past that much and briefly touch upon his childhood and young years in a series of flashbacks.
This statement strongly suggests that we will see more of Victor Sullivan who will be portrayed by Mark Wahlberg. Seeing the duo on the big screen will be crazily entertaining since both actors are well-known for their acting chops and on-screen presence.
The script and actors are in place for the film, but the empty directorial seat is what makes the prospects of the movie being made doubtful. After Travis Knight exiting the project due to scheduling conflicts between him and Holland, the producers have been searching for a suitable replacement. Recently, the rumors pointed at Ruben Fleischer.
